Positive mitzvos of the heart, 21
Complete trust in Hashem is a mitzvah: “You shall be wholehearted with Hashem your G-d”; to trust in Him with all the heart in all the matters of the world
And the virtue of complete trust in Him is a second mitzvah, as it says, “You shall be wholehearted with Hashem your G-d” (Devarim 18:13). And so the Ramban wrote, that this is a positive mitzvah: that we not ask the astrologers who gaze at the stars, or anyone else, what is to come; [and] if we hear something from them, we believe that everything is in the hand of Hashem, who frustrates their signs (Yeshayahu 44:25) according to how near we draw to His service. And so it is in Maseches Pesachim (Pesachim 113b). And from this we learn that there is a mitzvah to trust in Him with all the heart, in all the matters of the world, as is stated explicitly in the Kabbalah [the Nevi’im and Kesuvim]: “Blessed is the man who trusts in Hashem” (Yirmiyahu 17:7), “Cursed is the man who trusts in man, etc.” (Yirmiyahu 17:5); and it is written, “Trust in Him at all times” (Tehillim 62:9); and it is written, “Trust in Hashem with all your heart” (Mishlei 3:5). [It is] in the count of the 613 of Rabbeinu Yonah, and of the Gaon, and Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol, and the Ramban, and the Smak.
