Beshalach

One whose food is scant should strengthen himself in bitachon and give tzedakah even from the little that is left; then he becomes a vessel fit to receive the blessing from above

“If a person sees that his food is scant” (Gittin 7a): the counsel given before all else is the one the Sages gave, to take counsel for his soul: that is, that he should strengthen himself in the middos of bitachon with all the force of his strength, so that he gives tzedakah even from the little that is left. Even from this he should spend, and cast his burden on Hashem (Tehillim 55:23), for He knows how to set his affairs right better than he [does]. Therefore he should pay no attention to [the fact] that he has left no blessing behind him in his house, and it is empty of everything; rather, his heart [should be] confident in G-d that He will fill what he lacks. And as a matter of course, through the fitness of his deeds and the repair of what was lacking in his bitachon, he becomes a vessel ready and fit to receive the abundance and the blessing from above, which flows down constantly.
